From Autumn to Spring consists of two monumental vases (Model 52 weeks 11/97-11/98 and Model 12 months 09/89-09/90). Visually, the two designs allude to archetypical, ancient appa- ratus; a reference which is emphasized by the copper details of the vases’ supporting structures. The layeredness of their bodies – the variating intensity of the earthly coloured, horizontal seg- ments – is a poetic and intimate translation of the amount of rain, fallen during a de ned period of time on the soil of a speci c geographical place. The works both echo a personal narrative, materializing a cherished memory, and the progress of our lives in general.
As such, they are to be considered as prototypes: suggestions for a customized variation, de ned by the rainfall of any chosen period and place.
The two vases are contemporary relics: tangible memorials for passed times and lives. But, by making them utile, they also become, explicitly, part of today and tomorrow and provide us with a serene and introspective moment, devoted to contemplating the time which already passed and the time we may still be granted.
